Perfect Moisturiser

How to Find the Perfect Moisturiser

Believe it or not, there is no one size fits all approach to moisturiser – be it an organic skin care product or human-made. What works for someone else may not work for you and vice versa. With such variations in products and skin types, it can seem almost impossible to find the best moisturiser for your skin. However, if you think about the following points, you can narrow down the options for the best chance of success.

Lotion, Ointment, or Cream?

Manufacturers aren’t just choosing either lotion, ointment, or cream as the name as their product, depending on what they like. All of these options differ – they are not the same product. Therefore, you must match one of the three to your skin type.

If your skin is dry, itchy, or irritable, then a thicker ointment is potentially the best option. You can opt for a synthetic option which may irritate sensitive skin, or select an organic skin care product instead. If you have normal skin, a regular cream is usually a good choice. It can help with hydration and tends to be thinner than ointment.

If you have oily skin, on the other hand, lotion could be the best option for you. It features water as its main ingredient and tends to be far lighter than both cream and ointment.

Dry, Sensitive, or Itchy Skin?

If you have dry, sensitive, or itchy skin, then you may find organic skin care products can help take care of a range of problems. However, once again, the options available differ depending on the issue. For dry skin, an organic skin care product featuring lanolin or mineral oil can help to keep your skin hydrated for longer.

If your skin is sensitive, organic skin care products are going to be a better option than synthetic. They tend to be gentler, hypoallergenic, and fragrance-free. Most dermatology experts recommend opting for moisturisers with fewer than ten ingredients.

Hypoallergenic, natural, and organic skin care products can take care of itchy skin by soothing it. However, if you find your problem persists, you may need to speak to a medical professional. A serious skin problem or allergy could cause the itchy skin.

What to Avoid

Manufacturers are continually looking for ways to make their product look more appealing in the market. However, to do so, they are adding things that may be harmful to your skin.

To make sure you are doing right by your skin, avoid moisturisers with coloring and perfume, especially if you have sensitive skin. Oils, butter, and waxes work well on your body, but are less suitable for your face and can clog up your pores.

Some moisturisers also feature a lot of alpha-hydroxy acids. Too many of these can cause havoc with sensitive and delicate skin. Finally, limit your use of steroid creams. Long-term use can thin out your skin. You may find that organic skin care products can help as well as some steroid creams but are better for your skin.

Finding the perfect moisturiser is not impossible, but it is a challenge – especially if you’re not sure whether organic skin care products or synthetic ones are better for your needs. Think about your skin type and requirements before going ahead with your purchase.
